Ecologically sound Christmas presents

The best one I received this year was two glass milk bottles to return to the milkman, presented without christmas wrapping but with an optional, re-used, biodegradable paper carrier bag.

I suppose a better present in this case would have been for the giver to sign up to have the milkman deliver regularly...

We are looking into the latter option. They could also deliver various other things of use, thus obviating the need ever to visit Tesco (which would be a major win). The slight concern I have is random drunken passers-by stealing things or using them as missiles.

What time do they deliver to you? I've heard other people in Cambridge complaining that their milkmen deliver at 2 a.m., but I don't know whether that's the same company.

On the whole delivering at 2 a.m. is considered an advantage, because the most important thing is that they mustn't deliver after everyone's gone out to work, or after breakfast has already been eaten, dry weetabix and black coffee notwithstanding.
Ours comes typically during the hours of darkness shortly before dawn. Occasionally it is not there by 0645 but has appeared by 0730. Passers by do not appear steal it or use it as missiles, but a lockable cooling box can be obtained from the milk company to obviate both problems.
